Of all the terrible challenges the Fellowship of the Ring encountered on their journey, none was as fearsome as the Balrog. A demon of flame and shadow that had lain dormant for eons, buried deep beneath the misty mountains. In their search for Mithril, in the dark, sunless underworld, the Dwarves awakened a power that should never have been touched – a Balrog, a relic from a time of gods and giants, and a creature of such terror that its kind should never walk again in Middle-earth.

The Balrog, the untamed flame, could not be defeated by the sharp edge of any Dwarven blade. Durin's folk fell by the hundreds, and even the Dwarven king had to bow to the fiery creature that became known as Durin's Bane.

Crafted from high-quality polystone, this sculpture captures the Balrog's furious might in stunning detail. The original clay sculpture of Victor Gully was digitally enlarged by Steven Saunders and then painstakingly re-clad by Shaun Bolton. Standing 27.5cm (10.8”) tall, the sculpture is painted with a creative scheme that brings the Balrog’s flames to life in dramatic fashion. Designed to be displayed alongside the rest of the Classic Series line, it is an essential part of any collection.
